Yes, for one Sunday afternoon, RAC Temasek was invited to sell mangoes at a high-tea reception with the Singapore Pakistan Development Forum (SPADE).

The event, held on 20th August 2006, Sunday, at the Pyramid Club, was a celebration of the National Day of the Republic of Singapore, and the Independence Day of the Islamic Republic of Paskitan. Distinguished guests included the Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Balaji Sadasivan, as well as the High Commissioners of Pakistan to Singapore.

Present as our Temasek-HOO! delegates are Kelly Lim, Sandra Neo, Forrest 'Fun-man' Chan, Dennis Tan, as well as guests including Julia Chong, Kenny Nai, and our fellow Rotaractor from Mumbai, Shilpa Sehgal (representing RAC Bombay West :) ).

We were tasked to sell succulent mangoes from Pakistan to the guests, as an effort to raise funds for the victims of the recent earthquake in Pakistan. But selling mangoes was no easy tasks; we had to resort to a variety of 'strategies', from the simplest "taste and sell" technique of letting the guest try the mangoes before buying, to the wildly inconcievable idea of performing a dance for the guest when they buy a box of mangoes! (Club Services Director Forrest's promise of juggling mangoes to boost sales did not come through. Boo!)

And the results to our wild antics? Here was a post-event sms from Vice-President of SPADE, Frank to President of RAC Temasek, Kelly:

"Your guys n gals did good. More than 20 boxes of mangoes sold. Thanks alot. Pls pass on my appreciation to all your team. Frank"

Each box of mangoes sells for $40. That means we've helped raise $800 for the quake victims in an afternoon!

Well done guys! This event gets the RAC Temasek Stamp of approval! :)
